OpenPutt is made by Open Golf Labs LLC ("we", "us"), of Denver, Colorado. It is a putting trainer: the app on your phone reads your putts with the camera, and a page on your TV's browser shows them rolling on a virtual green. It has no ads and doesn't track you. This policy explains what the app and this website handle.
Without an account
You can use OpenPutt without signing in. Then your putts are kept only in the app's memory while you play, and are gone when you leave. Nothing about your putting is kept on our servers.
Camera
The app uses the camera only while you putt. The pictures are read on your phone to find the ball and measure the putt. They are never saved and never sent anywhere. Only the result (how fast the ball started and in which direction) goes to your TV.
Your TV
The TV page shows a pairing code, and you type it into the app. While they're paired, the app sends the TV your putts, your settings and the green you picked, and, for the Stats screen, your putting history. These pass through our server on their way to the TV. Our server doesn't store them, and the session ends when the TV page closes.
The TV page saves its own settings, such as your room setup, in that browser's storage, on the TV.
Location
OpenPutt doesn't track your location. The app asks for it only if you tap the button to find golf courses near you. Then it sends your position once, with that search, so our server can list nearby courses. We don't store or log it. You can always search by name instead.
Courses and greens
When you search for a course, pick a green or add a course, the app sends our server the course name you typed or the course or green you picked. We don't link these requests to you.
Your account
An account keeps your putting stats. You sign in with a code we email you, or with Apple or Google. There is no password. The account holds:
- your email address;
- if you sign in with Apple or Google, the user id they give us for you. With Apple, we also keep a token so we can tell Apple to remove the link when you delete your account;
- a random id that links the account to your purchase (see Purchases);
- your sign-ins: a scrambled form of each sign-in code (it works once, for 15 minutes) and of each phone's sign-in token (it lasts up to a year, and signing out ends it).
We email your sign-in codes through Resend. Apple or Google check who you are when you sign in with them.
Your putting stats
When you're signed in, the app keeps your putting history on your phone. While your subscription is active, it also saves it to your account, so it's safe if you change phones. This is:
- the golfers on your account: the name and colour you give each one;
- each practice session: when it started, the drill, the green speed, and whether the green was a real one;
- each putt: its length, holed or missed, where it stopped, how far off line it started, whether you had a read, and on a course round the hole and how many putts it took;
- each putter you name, and how far the ball rolls off it (learned from your putts).
Your stats are worked out on your phone and shown on your phone and TV. We don't show them to anyone else. Signing out removes the history from that phone.
Purchases
Payment is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play); we never see your card or your store account details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat receives a random id the app makes up and the store's purchase record. From RevenueCat we keep whether your subscription is active: the plan, the store, whether it's a trial, when it started, when it ends or renews, and whether there's a billing problem. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Support messages
If you write to us with the support form in the app, we receive your email address and your message by email (sent through Resend), so we can reply. We keep support emails for as long as we need them to help you.
Limiting abuse
To limit how many requests one connection can make (for example sign-in tries, support messages, added courses and pairing attempts), our server keeps a scrambled form of your IP address in memory for up to an hour. It doesn't store or log your IP address.
Where it's kept
Our servers are run by Fly.io in the United States. We don't sell your information or share it with anyone except the services named in this policy, which handle it for us.
Deleting your account
Delete your account in the app, or by email; see openputt.app/delete-account. It deletes the account and everything above that's linked to it, straight away: your email, sign-ins, golfers, sessions, putts, putters and subscription record. If you signed in with Apple, we also tell Apple to remove the link. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel that in the App Store or Google Play.
This website
openputt.app runs no analytics and no ads, and sets no cookies.
Children
OpenPutt isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. If we ever start collecting something new, we'll ask in the app first.
